How to choose your massage table
Use
- - Of course it is not the table that will give a good quality massage, but you, the therapist. The table is only the support for the person receiving the massage.
However, if you are doing massages lasting longer than 45 minutes, we advise you to get a good quality massage table. Working with another support could mean that the table is too hard or too soft, too high or too low, and won't guarantee you or your patient sufficient comfort.
WE KNOW YOU FIND IN OUR SELECTION OF MASSAGE TABLES THE ONE THAT WILL FULLY SATISFY YOUR NEEDS AND THE COMFORT OF YOUR PATIENTS.
- If you are using your massage table only occasionally or just for your family, standard tables will be nice to use.
In addition, they are not expensive. But if you are using your professionally, you should choose a table equipped with tensors for more stability and with at least 1 inch ¾ thick covers with PU (polyurethane). PU will last longer, with no cracks on the surface, and it will assure comfort for your clients even if you use your table frequently.
In any case, choose a table with adjustable height to avoid severe backache. We do not sell tables with a fixed height and all our tables with adjustable height mechanism are very cheap.
Weight
- Weight is really what you have to consider when you choose your massage table. The lighter your table, the easier it will be to carry it. While the wooden traditional tables give a feeling of warmth and cosiness, they also weigh 4 to 7 pounds more than aluminium tables. If aluminium tables are perceived as being less popular, it may be because they are less aesthetically pleasing convey less energy
Adjustable backs and legs height
- Please think of the types of massage you provide to decide if you need this kind of elements or not. For example, Chinese, Californian, and Swedish massages do not require backs.
- An adjustable back is needed in the field of aestheticism, reflexology, and if the persons' legs must be lifted. It is also needed if the person must be seated or in a relaxed position.
- Adding this element to your table it add 2 to 6 pounds of weight to the table.
Width
- The right width for your massage table will be a good compromise between your comfort and the comfort of your patients.
- A narrow table (21 inches wide) will be very convenient for the therapist, especially for his back and his arms, but it will also be very uncomfortable for broad-shouldered patients. Their arms will fall down. In that case we will recommend that you order the armrests as an option.
- An average table of 23 inches wide will be more comfortable for the lying person, especially if the table has no armrest. This is the reason why we recommend massage tables of 23 inches wide.
- A larger table of more than 23 inches wide will be more comfortable for the patient but not so much for the therapist. Moreover they are more difficult to carry. They are suitable only for a special type of massage or for medical examination purpose.
Height
- All our tables are adjustable in height. Usually the right height for the table matches the therapist wrists when he/she is standing arms down. For your comfort, do not buy a table with a fixed height (not adjustable)!
Neck hole / Headrest / Accessories
- Most of our tables have a face hole. Nevertheless for even more comfort it can be useful to add a headrest.
- We also sell caps to cover the headrest if needed.
Prices and Advices
- I am a salesman (as well as a therapist) and could be tempted to suggest you buy the most expensive tables. Instead, I will give you sincere and useful advise:
- If you need some accessories like a headrest for example, order them when you buy your table. It will cost you more to order them later on.
- Wood! Wooden tables are the most popular tables because they are the nicest and the cheapest ones. They are great for all kinds of massages. And they are essential if you are working with energies because metal tables keep energies (that means bad ones too).
- Weight: aluminium massage tables are more expensive than wooden ones but they are lighter to carry
- If you do not need to carry or fold your massage table, choose a stationary one. It will be more stable.
- Invest £750 for an electric massage table rather than £400 to £620 for a fixed table. You won't regret it if you use your table a lot. The therapist is giving you this advise, not the salesman! Or buy a cheap folding table for a start and save up to get an electric table later
